Mustangs trample Bulldogs 47-14

El Dorado Springs Head Football Coach Bob Ramsey spoke with the Sun on Monday following his team’s 47-14 loss to the Eldon Mustangs made worse by the injury loss of three starters.

Coach Ramsey told the Sun: It was frustrating game. Twenty years and I haven’t been in this situation where I lost our top three kids. You lose your quarterback, your fullback and your tailback. Those guys account for most of our offense and a lot of our defense. Losing those kids really hurt in that ball game.

Q. How are they doing?

We are not going to have any back this week. They have all been to the doctor and none of them have been cleared or released yet.

The good news is: Brendan Fast did not break a bone. He just got a deep bruise on his hip which is aggravating and painful. It usually takes a while to heal.
Tanner Hixson does not have a break. He has a severe ankle sprain.

Garrett Mays had a concussion on a attempt to make a tackle. He went in and they did a CAT scan. They didn’t find anything. You have to be careful with that.

The final score was 47-14.

They are as good football team. We knew going in it was going to be a challenge. They returned 10 offensive starters and 10 defensive starters from last year. They finished the season last year being pretty competitive and were pretty excited about this being their year to win quite a few ball games. They are a big strong football team and were just able to take it to us.

Q. Their big back was fast. When he got around the end, he was gone.

He was not only 6’2” 215 - 225, but he ran very well. When you got that big ol’ body moving he was hard to tackle.

This Friday night we have Nevada and it’s homecoming. Again, we are going to match up with a 3A school, sometimes 4A. And they are going to be a big physical football team.
They are just as big as Eldon and just as physical. We are going to have to buckle those chin straps and dig in this week. We are going to have kids who do not have a lot of Friday night experience out on the field. We will start a freshman quarterback, Kason Schwalm. We are going to have a good week of practice and get them ready to go.
It’s only week 4 and our goal is to win the district. We have three weeks before we get to district play. So, we want to make sure we are healthy for districts. I don’t want to try to win a game against Nevada and lose those guys for the rest of the year. I’d rather try to get them healthy and make sure we have them for the end of the season.

Q. Were the injuries because they were playing a bigger team?

No, Tanner Hixson has had this ankle. It’s been a recurring injury. A kid fell on him and it twisted again. Same thing with Brendan. On Mays, that ding was just a poor tackling technique. He should have hit it low and it was pretty much helmet-to-helmet.

We have homecoming this week parade Friday at 2:45 afternoon. We encourage everyone to come out and support the team.
